Cricket Champions!

Congratulations to Mr Gardner and the Year 5/6 Mixed Cricket team who are the Canterbury Superstar Cricket Champs for 2020!

They played three matches today in the Finals day at Hagley Park. They beat Fendalton School in the 1/4 finals, then Cotswold School in the semi-finals to book a place in the finals against Hoon Hay – who they had lost to in pool play (their only loss). Hillview batted first and amassed a great total of 135 which Hoon Hay could not match, ending up on 89. Some all round team play saw us win and also some excellent fielding – five catches to Cameron Fairhall – and some improved bowling from our girls who have been practising hard.

Well done team – only our second ever victory in this competition to find the best Primary School Cricket team in Canterbury!

Our Champion team with the Shield!

South Island Year 9/10 Badminton Bronze!

Well done to our Year 9/10 Boys’ Badminton team who have won the Bronze Medal at the South Island Secondary Schools’ Badminton Champs today at Badminton Hall in Pages Road.

The boys had three long matches today and after leaving school at 8.30am, their last game finished at 6.15pm! Earlier in the day they had tough games against Burnside High (eventual winners) and Queen Charlotte College (from Picton who won silver). This set up a final match with Riccarton High to see who would take the Bronze.

The boys ended up beating Riccarton 5-1 after a marathon effort and a number of close games – with 5 of the 6 matches going to 3 games! See match results below.

Well done boys! Tomorrow they receive their medals and participate in the Relay where all of the boys are in different teams. A big thanks to Kirstyn Ford for managing the team.

Bronze Medalists: Andrew Boadilla, Sam Tyler, Harrison Dick and Josh Ford
