Cross Country Rep. and Basketball Results

GWP_3953Cross Country Rep. – well done to Matthew Fairhall (Year 6) who has been selected in the Primary Sports Canterbury Cross Country team for 2016 to compete in Wellington at the end of September. Matthew’s brother, Latham, was a former captain of the hardest Canterbury Rep.team to get into!

Sam Meecham (Y7) and Oliver Graves (Y8) race next Wednesday at the Roto Kohatu Reserve to see if they can gain selection in the top 10 in their races of 40 runners.

Basketballers 4th and 5th – our Year 5/6 Girls were 4th and the Boys were 5th at the Primary Sports Canterbury Indoor Tournament on Tuesday. Mr Harrison said both teams were very competitive and just missed out on finals places and the podium – a great effort by the girls with two Year 4 players in the team too!

Netball Reps and Basketball on Tuesday

Canterbury Netball Reps. – Congratulations to Maia Te Hae, Winnie Palamo and Hanna-Lise Manuel who have been selected in the Primary Sports Canterbury Year 7/8 Rep. Netball teams for 2016. This is an amazing achievement and to have three girls in the team from our school is a record and also the most of any school in Canterbury! A special mention also to Year 7 Madison Telea who made it to the last trial of 31 girls but narrowly missed being named in the final 20 girls to don the Red and Black uniform for 2016 (hopefully her time will come next year!).

Primary Sports Canterbury Year 5/6 Basketball Tournament – this is being held tomorrow at Pioneer Stadium and both our Boys and Girls’ teams have qualified. For a timetable of our games tomorrow (Tuesday 28 June), please click here: Yr 56 Basketball Draw 16

Cross Country Relay Gold for Luke

Josiah Barnes and Luke Mitchell competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Rotorua in the weekend. In the Year 9 Boys’ race Luke was 38th and Josiah 154th against some very tough and fast competitors. On the Sunday Luke ran the last leg for the Canterbury Year 9 Boys’ team and was able to hold off the other provinces to earn Canterbury the Gold Medal – a fantastic achievement. Check out some photos below of our trip. There were about 1000 teenagers from all over NZ at the event.

Luke and Josiah Barnes compete in the NZ Sec. Schools’ Cross Country Champs on Saturday first. Also – a big thanks to all who bought sausages to help with their trip!

Close loss for Year 6 Rippa Rugby Team: Coach Mr Norton writes – I was very proud of our Rippa team who played today and narrowly lost 10-9 to St. Martins, right on the whistle after 5 minutes of extra time. I know the team was gutted and so was I but they coped very well.

I think our attitude was summed up by Eva, who was helping me to pack up at the end, when she saw St. Martins were leaving she yelled out to them something like “ups to you St. Martins, well done!” – that was awesome.
Well done guys and thanks to those who came along to watch today – real drama on the sportsfield!
