School Swimming Sports 2020

We thank God for some great Swimming Sports today for our Year 5-10s. All students participated in at least two events and we had some excellent performances.

Noah and Tessa Davis both were outstanding and broke four school records each and Israel Alesana broke one. A number of other students were very close to breaking more. Without a doubt, we would have some of the toughest records to break out of all the Canterbury schools!

Two relay records were also broken – SNELL broke the Year 5/6 record and HILLARY broke the Year 7/8 record. In the Year 9/10s Sheppard took the win but also pushed the Staff Allstars into second!

House Champions for 2020 are HILLARY, with SHEPPARD 2nd, RUTHERFORD 3rd and SNELL in 4th.

Here are the results from today, Wednesday 26 February: RESULTS

Swimming Sports 2015

We had a super time at our Senior School Swimming Sports today at Wharenui. We had 15 records broken (see new records here: HCS School Swimming Records 2015 ) with some of them broken by more that 10 seconds – and that is over 50 metres. Oliver Graves broke four records and Hayley Buckley broke three records and gave Mr Buxton a lesson on how to swim. Full House results are not through yet but at the pool Rutherford had a big lead over Sheppard, Snell and Hillary in that order – with Relay results to be added.

Well done to all children who competed and gave of their best, whether in the Championship 50m races, one length 25m races or in the event for those still refining their swimming strokes.

Thanks to all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer on students. Thanks also to Kelly Davis for the photos.

Year 5-8 Swim Team to South Zones – Thursday 27 March

Congratulations to our team of 33 children Year 5-8 children who competed at the South Zone Swimming Champs at Wharenui Pool. It was a new experience for many and quite a few of the children were nervous. All swimmers did really well and just to make it to this level was a big achievement.

There were some excellent performances from Hillview swimmers. Of note was Oliver Graves, winning his two events (9 years boys’ Freestyle and Breaststroke) and bringing the 9 years relay team into second place. Jessica Frost swam an exceptional race to win the 10 years girls’ Breaststroke. James McRae swam an intelligent race to win the 11 years boys’ Breaststroke and showed real strength and endurance to place 2nd in the Open 50m Butterfly. Maddie Morrow showed good style to win the 9 years girls’ Breaststroke and our 11 years relay team were champions – well done to Luke Mitchell, Eva Stark, Keight Copeland and Brendan Morgan.

HCS Swimming Sports 2014 Results: We had a wonderful swimming sports today and the children all put in a huge effort whether they were first or last, as we know one of our school values is EXCELLENCE, where we always give of our best.

A stunning 13 records were broken (we only keep records for the 50m races and open 25m butterfly) with three records broken by OLIVER GRAVES and HAYLEY BUCKLEYand two records broken by LIAM HICKEY and EVA STARK.

There are a few gaps is our results and please let us know of any mistakes (email: p.norton@hillview.school.nz). The House points totals are still to come but it looks likeRutherford did enough in the relays to hold out Sheppard for top spot.
