Centrals Cross Country 22.6.11

Over 1400 children descened on Halswell Quarry last wednesday for the Primary Sports Canterbury Cross country Championships. Runners cam from Methven, Ashburton, Cheviot, the West Coast and all throughout Canterbury. Hillview had a team of 10 competing and all did well in very large and competitive fields.

Stand-out performances came from Savannah Wilson, Renzo Childs and Bethany Walters, all finishing in the first 20 of their races to advance to the Intermediate v. Primaries competition on July 6th at the same venue. Thanks to Chris Wilson for transporting the team.

Rippa Team 5th=

Our Year 6 Rippa team took 5th= in the RWC Year 6 Rippa competition. Their dream of qualifying for the RWC Tournament in Auckland was nearly realised with them beating one of the finalists- Mr Norton’s old school, Fendalton. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep it up though and their defence let them down a little with a draw in their last pool game which meant they missed the top 4 play-offs.

Pool A:

Game 1: Kaiapoi Borough 6, HCS 5

Game 2: HCS 6, Fendalton 5

Game 3: HCS 6, Marshland 6

Play-off for 5th/6th: HCS 7, Avonhead 7
