Cross Country Results 2014

We did it today – we got through our Cross Country races without getting too wet. Thank- you God!

In perfect Cross Country conditions, the Hillview students exemplified “EXCELLENCE” by giving of their best in our School Cross Country today. A stunning 10 new records were set or equalled out of the 20 races! A big thanks to our parents and families and friends who supported the students and also to the teachers and staff who coped very well in marginal conditions! Well done RUTHERFORD on their House win over Hillary.

Sports News

A few sports shorts from recent events ….

Swimming: Well done to Oliver Graves who placed 3rd in the 9 years boys 50m Freestyle in the Primary Sports Canterbury Swimming Championships held today at the Selwyn Aquatic Centre in Rolleston – Oliver was only 0.33 seconds off winning!!!. He was also 7th in the 50m Breaststroke. The rest of the team competed well but found the competition very tough. For full results, click here: PSC Swim Results 2014

Athletics: Another third was also achieved by Jemesa Landers last weekend when she competed in the South Island Secondary School Athletic Champs in Timaru last weekend, she was competing in the 2000m open walk – she has four more years in this grade! Her brother, Farran, ran a PB in the U15 boys’ 3000m to take 9th in 10m45s – an excellent time over 3km.

Secondary School Swimming and Athletics

Swimming Champs: We had a team of five students participating in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Swimming Championships today at Jellie Park. We had two outstanding results with Hayley Buckley taking 3rd in the 12-13 years Girls 100m Freestyle and Leah Blondell taking 4th in the 12-13 years Girls’ 50m Breaststroke. The 13 years Girls 4 x 50m relay team were 9th and only 2.5 secs off Burnside High and St. Andrews – a brilliant effort from Hayley, Leah, Imogen Clucas and Fia Palamo. Isaac Boot swam well in his 50m backstroke to go faster than our school record and well under his time at our school champs.
