IRXC2016 in Waikanae 22.9.16

at-waikanaeSam Meecham and Matthew Fairhall ran for the Primary Sports Canterbury Cross Country team in Waikanae last Thursday in the IRXC2016. In Matthew’s first appearance at this level he did very well to place 17th out of 40 runners from around the country in the Year 6 race. Sam took an excellent 2nd place in the Year 7 Boys, although he wasn’t feeling the best – a gutsy effort which saw him lead the Canterbury A team to a Gold medal in the teams’ race.

Both boys helped Canterbury to win the Phil Costley Shield from Wellington for the first time in four years.

Grace Perrett (in orange and blue)has been cycling on Wednesday afternoons at Tai Tapu and she gained second place overall in her grade with some excellent racing – well done Grace. She is now moving to tack cycling at Denton Oval for the Summer.

Get 2 Go results

Well done to our two Year 9/10 Get 2 Go teams that competed on Friday. Our A team took a great 5th and the B team did very well also. The A team were just about the top team on the water with a 99/100 score. A big thanks to Jenni Blyleven and Mr Genet for taking the teams. Well done to Cashmere 1 on their comprehensive victory again.

We are so thankful to God for our talented  Year 7/8 Netball team winning the Koru Games at the Selwyn Netball Centre yesterday after three days of competition.

Our Year 7/8 Girls’ team went into the quaterfinals with confidence after topping their pool from play on Tuesday and Wednesday, winning all their seven games.

In the quaterfinal they face a very tall Balmacewan Intermediate team from Dunedin but saw them off 15-7. In their semi they faced Belfast School who had defeated Cobham Intermediate (we don’t play against Intermediates on Thursdays or in the Winter tournament). We had a close tussle with them at the Winter Tournament but were too strong them, winning 20-12.

The Final match was against Ashburton Intermediate, who had beaten Ellesmere College in their semi and who were also undefeated for the tournament.

In a tense low-scoring game the teams matched goal for goal in the first half of 10 minutes. In the second half, Hillview got a one goal break then two and and finally surged home to win by four goals, 14-10.

This team is now undefeated for the season (I think 36 wins and no losses!), winning the following:

1st Thursday Afternoon Competition

1st South Zone Tournament

1st Primary Sports Canterbury Winter Tournament

1st Koru Games

They also have three Primary Sports Canterbury Reps.- Winnie Palamo, Hanna-Lise Manuel and Maia Te Hae.

A big thanks to their coaches Luaao Te Hae and Sarah Marshall, to Ginnie Clucas from the Hillview Netball Club, to their parents and other supporters and to God for their talents and the sportsmanship evident when they played as ambassadors of Christ.

The team are:

Angel Marshall, Danika Rossouw, Blythe Yule, Jessica and Madison Telea, Winnie Palamo, Maddie Morrow, Hanna-Lise Manuel, Maia Te Hae and Mia Tauamiti-Graham.
