Year 7/8 Netballers 5th at Koru Games
Here is a report..
Day 3 – we won 2 out of 3 games.
In total we won 9 games out of 10. Therefore, we came 5th on the table out of 32 teams.
We lost the the quarter final against Ellesmere which was the one that counted, to enable us to go through major semifinals, then onto the Final.
Girls were really gutted, but that is pressure netball. Girls were unsettled to begin with, and the basic mistakes made in mid court cost us. We lost 14-12.
Although we lost, the girls were very great at congratulating the Ellesmere team and wishing them well for the semis. We have always had a close bond with their Ellesmere, as we have played them right through the winter season. They were the winners of the quarter final on the day and won the Final against St Margaret’s.
A highlight for me, was the way both Fia Lai Kong (captain) and Malia Faitaua-Nainai (co-captain), lifted/carried the girls throughout the tournament, with their actions and positive words on and off the court. This behaviour was also displayed by our team towards every opposing team we played.
We had many parents, umpires and even the organisers of the tournament, come up to both Sarah and I, to let us know how impressed they were with our team
throughout the whole tournament. It was lovely to hear. I was so proud of the girls and so proud to represent Hillview Christian School!! I actually had tears … hahaha.
It’s been an Awesome experience, and so loved it! We had a fantastic time!

Orienteering – Oliver Graves 2 x winner
We had a big group of students at the Canterbury Schools’ Orienteering Festival last weekend. Highlight for us was Oliver Graves taking a win on both Saturday (with Josh Winter) at the University of Canterbury and on Sunday, by himself, at Halswell Quarry in the Year 7/8 Standard grade. Year 6 Rippa Team 8th in NZ (in the World!!)
Our Year 6 Rippa Rugby team spent three days in Wellington from Sunday to Tuesday playing against the top 20 teams from the country. Representing Samoa, they had an excellent first day with three wins and one loss to end up runners-up in Pool B and qualify for the last eight and play in the 1/4 finals. They were soundly beaten by reigning champs and eventual winners, Rosscommon School from Counties Manuakau (Australia) in their quarter final on Tuesday before ending up 8th. A big thanks to our supporters who traveled to Wellington – and even Mr Frost too! Thanks also to Stacey Lene for helping with our training.
Year 7/8 A Netball Team – 7 wins from 7 games at the Koru Games
The Year 7/8 A Netball team have been very impressive in their two days of competition at the Koru Games at the Selwyn Netball Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday. They have had some impressive wins in advancing to the 1/4 finals and have topped Pool 4. They have their quarter final match against Ellesmere College at 10.00am tomorrow on Court 4, hopefully leading to a semi at 11.00am and then Final at 12.30pm.
