Year 5-10 Swimming Sports

It was an awesome sight seeing the Year 5-10 students trying their best in the Swimming Sports today at Wharenui Pool. Many of the sudents were decked out in house colours and had wristbands, various ties on arms legs and heads and coloured clothes.

Full results will be out later but Mr Stanton has said that SNELL had the most individual entries and winners of the three house relays were:

Year 7/8: HILLARY

Year 9/10: SNELL

Cricket Success for our Boys’ Year 7/8 Team

Years 7/8 Boys’ Cricket

We have combined with Opawa School to enter a team in the NZ Cricket Y7/8 knockout tournament. Schools with small Years 7/8 departments can combine with another school if their combined roll in this area of the school is no more than 200. Our team contains 10 Hillview boys and two from Opawa. We played our first game at Casebrook Intermediate on Monday and we were sent in to bat. We scored 179 for 5 wickets in our 20 overs and they replied with 127/8. Riley Tempero (Opawa) produced an excellent innings of 75, including 10 fours and one six, and he was very well supported by Mona Faitaua-Nanai with 27 not out (four fours and a six), Jack Morrow 18 and Will Harrison 12. Jack took 2 wickets for 12 runs including an outstanding caught and bowled dismissal – one of the best I have seen from a Year 7/8 player. He also affected a brilliant run out. Others to bowl well included Paul Tomkinson, Milan Raxworthy (2/23) and Will.

Cricket followers have been saddened this week with the news of the death of Peter Sharp due to cancer. Peter is an ex teacher, school inspector and cricket commentator. He has been Canterbury’s commentator for more than 40 years.
