Year 9/10 Get2Go Challenge

Hi all

See below for information about a great event for all Year 9/10s that Jenni Blyleven organises for our students

Contact: Jenni Blyleven: blyleven@maxnet.co.nz

Training will start in Term 2 – usually one lunchtime and Saturdays late in the afternoon

2017 Date – 18 September – what is Get 2 Go?

Now in its 12th year, the Get2Go Challenge comprises a series of fun and exciting regional events, culminating in a Grand Final for qualifying participants. It is like the Amazing Race, Treasure Island and Survivor, mixed together with adventure sports including rock climbing, orienteering, kayaking, mountain biking and a little bit of problem solving.

Get2Go is organised by Hillary Outdoors and supported by sports clubs and organisations right across New Zealand and has been designed to encourage a wider participation in outdoor pursuit activities. There are 12 events in the series held in regions around the country spanning as far north as Whangarei and right down to Dunedin. These take the form of one day challenges that are held in Term 3 each year.

In the regional one day events, teams need to undertake four 60 minute long challenges and attempt each in the allotted time. To maximise their score in each task teams will be required to work together, using important team skills such as communication, problem solving, planning and decision making. There is a limited capacity of 24 teams at each regional challenge, with teams taken on a first in first served basis.

The 5-day long national Get2Go Challenge Final is held on Great Barrier Island in December each year for teams qualifying from the  regional event series .

Who is the Get2Go for?

The Get2Go Challenge is open to ALL year 9 and 10 students. You DON’T need any special outdoors experience, but you DO need to be ready to give exciting new stuff a go! You can be as social or as competitive as you like.

Cross Country Results 2017

DSC_0673We are very thankful to God for lovely weather for our Cross Country – run in perfect Cross Country conditions with lots of water and a bit of mud too on a heavy and slow grass course. There were some great performances by all runners.

With the course running very slow, Abby Graham, was exceptional in setting a new Year 3 Girls record!

Swimming Success

Well done to our team of 14 swimmers who contested the Primary Sports Canterbury Swimming Championships at Rolleston today. To qualify they had to get through the South Zones and come 1st or 2nd. South Island Secondary School Athletics

We took a team of seven students to the South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships in Dunedin last weekend. They did extremely well against the best of the Secondary schools from all over the South Island.

Our Under 15 girls relay team were outstanding, winning their heat in 52.73 sec. and then taking third in the final behind Otago Girls and Southland Girls and well ahead of the other Christchurch schools. Winnie Palamo was third in the Under 14 Girls 80m Hurdles and Long Jump and was also 6th in the 100m final. Torian Barnes threw a mammoth 37m in the Discus to take 4th place. Todd Ehau was a solid 7th in the Javelin and Luke Mitchell was 8th in the 1500m and 9th in the 3000m in a PB.
