Year 7/8 Cricket Reports 2020

At the end of last term we had a girls’ and a boys’ Year 7/8 Cricket team competing in the Canterbury Cricket Year 7/8 Participation grade. Thanks to Mr Stanton (girls) and Mr Gardner (boys) for training the teams and taking them to the tournaments. Here are the team reports from their two day tournaments:

The Year 7/8 girls cricket team participated in a Canterbury Junior Cricket tournament on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th March. There were two grades playing, competition and participation. Our girls were entered in the participation grade. They narrowly lost a friendly game against Heaton on the first morning and then won their next four games. The girls played well together as a team and were a great encouragement to each other. If we can convince the girls to stick together we may just look at entering into the more competitive grade next year. Mr Stanton

The Year 7/8 boys cricket team participated in a Canterbury Junior Cricket tournament on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th March. Our team was competing in the participation grade. The boys had a good first up win against St Francis but had a loss in the afternoon game against a very good Cobham team. On the second day of competition we narrowly lost to Heaton. This result meant we were playing for 3rd or 4th against Sumner. This game will go down as one of the most exciting games I have ever been a part of. The boys played extremely well and managed, what the Black Caps couldn’t, a ‘Super Over’ win! Well done Boys! Mr Gardner

Hillview crowned Champions

Hillview Christian School (pictured below) have been crowned Christchurch’s top primary school cricket team for 2015, winning the Superstar Cricket Trophy for the first time in their history.

The finals was also a first, in that it was played at Hagley Oval for the first time.

Hillview went through the preliminary rounds unbeaten in the finals on December 11 , accounting for Cotswold, Hoon Hay and St Albans in pool play.

They then went on to beat defending champions Waimairi in the final, 75 to 50.

In the 2nd XI grade, Paparoa Street Red defeated Elmwood in the final.
