Secondary School Cross Country

Our team of six runners performed well in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Cross Country held at the Ascot Golf Course at QEII today.

Luke Mitchell did extremely well to take 15th in the Junior Boys Under 16 Grade – racing against Year 11s as well. This was a 15 place improvement on his placing at the Road Race.

Joe Brown had an outstanding run to finish 24th in the Year 9 Boys 3000m ahead of Nathan Smith in 68th, Jesse Miller 71st and Ben Garlick 73rd. Amelia Bader ran well for 70th in the Year 9 girls.

The New Zealand Secondary School Champs will be held over the same course on Saturday 17 June.

Outstanding Sports Results Today at the Year 7/8 Indoor Tournament

We had some outstanding sports results today at the Primary Sports Canterbury Indoor Tournament.

Volleyball 1st and 2nd! We had two teams entered in the Year 7/8 Volleyball tournament held out at Lincoln. Both of them ended up in the Final – so Hillview was guaranteed the win and 2nd! This is an amazing result – well done to the Year 8 team who won (retaining our title on last year) and the Year 7/8 team who were runners up! Well done Mrs Oosterbaan!

Basketball Boys 1st and Girls 2nd! Our Year 7/8 Boys’ Basketball team went through unbeaten in the tournament held at Pioneer Stadium. They had to work hard in a pool game against Rowley and then come from behind to pip Halswell in their semi-final before being convincing winners against Kaiapoi North in the final 20-4.

The Girls’ team went through pool play unbeaten and then survived a close semi-final against Prebbleton. In the final they let a strong Ashgrove team get ahead 16-4 before rallying but leaving it too late to lose by 24-20.

Thanks Mr Harrison for all your hard work with the teams over the years. A superb result!

Again we thank God for the wonderful talents on display today and for the commitment put in by our parents and especially teachers like Mr Harrison and Mrs Oosterbaan.
